  • Season 2 of the historical drama “Bridgerton” will soon be available on the Netflix streaming service.
  • In an interview, actress Nicola Coughlan (“Derry Girls”) revealed that the new episodes will reveal more about Lady Whistledown.
  • Here’s what Coughlan says about Penelope Featherington’s alternate personality.

The popular Netflix series “Bridgerton” returns to the streaming service soon with season 2. In it, we’ll learn more about Lady Whistledown, as actress Nicola Coughlan (“Derry Girls”) revealed in an interview.

At the end of Season 1, fans found out who Lady Whistledown is. None other than Penelope Featherington (Coughlan) is the gossip columnist.

In an interview with Claudia Winkleman on her BBC Radio 2 show, Coughlan revealed how Season 2 builds on the twist of the finale: “Yeah, the reveal at the end of Season 1, which I won’t give away, sort of leaves us behind in Season 2 peek down the curtain. We see her getting away with the things she gets away with.”

“And I had so much fun with that, because in the first season she’s a shy, reserved wallflower, and in the second season you’re like, ‘Oh, she’s got all these other things going,’ and it’s extremely fun made filming that.”

Nicola Coughlan

Many had expected that, similar to Gossip Girl, Lady Whistledown’s identity would remain a mystery until the end of the series. Even in Julia Quinn’s books, her identity remains a mystery for a little longer.

Because the mystery was revealed so early, the series can spend more time showing Penelope’s point of view. And Nicola Coughlan gets the opportunity to play two different roles: the shy Penelope and the brash Lady Whistledown.

It won’t be long before we see Coughlan in action. Season 2 of “Bridgerton” will be released on March 25, 2022 on the Netflix streaming service. Until then you can bridge the waiting time with these alternatives.
