After Anthony found the love of his life in the second season of “Bridgerton”, it is now his little brother Colin’s turn in the third season, ahead of his older brother Benedict. Netflix has officially renewed the series for season 3 and season 4.

“Bridgerton”: When is season 3 coming?

Bridgerton Season 3 is coming to Netflix later than expected. Because before the start of the new episodes, the “Bridgerton” spin-off “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” was released in May 2023.

This will delay the release of season three until winter 2023. There is no official start date yet, but we already know the exact date due to an accidental leak from Netflix itself.

Bridgerton season 3: trailer and pictures

We can only expect a real trailer for the 3rd season of “Bridgerton” shortly before the release of the series. However, there is already a first behind-the-scenes video for the third season of “Bridgerton”.

During the Tudum fan event in June 2023, the first pictures of Colin and Penelope were finally published. They give each other languishing looks.

A picture of Colin in his carriage was previously published on the series’ official Instagram channel. However, this is a behind-the-scenes image, as you can see members of the production team in the background.

Bridgerton Season 3: Storyline

Each “Bridgerton” season follows the love life of one of the eight Bridgerton children. Season 3 was supposed to focus on Benedict Bridgerton, Edmund and Violet’s second son. But now it is clear that the order of the love stories for the series will be changed. It is possible that Eloise will forestall her brother as a result.

Season 3 of the Netflix series brings us the romance between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton. The fourth book in Julia Quinn’s series of novels is dedicated to them. We’ll probably see Benedict’s story in a later season.

Since “only” an extension up to and including season 4 has been confirmed so far, the more popular characters of the “Bridgerton” universe will probably be preferred in order to ensure a further continuation up to season 8.

According to Netflix’s official season description, Penelope has given up hope that Colin will ever feel anything for her. So she goes in search of a suitable husband. Ironically, Colin gives her tips and gradually begins to fall in love with her.

Meanwhile, the situation between Penelope and Eloise Bridgerton has not eased. This has to do with a new friendship that Eloise has made. Penelope also has trouble keeping her alter ego, Lady Whistledown, a secret.

Of course, if you’re afraid of spoilers, you shouldn’t read any further, but we’ll tell you what is known from Book 4 of the Julia Quinn novels and how the story could be adapted for the series.

In Penelope’s Spicy Secret, Colin Bridgerton returns to London after 12 years of travelling. Penelope Featherington is looking forward to her boyfriend, with whom she has always been secretly in love. However, she has now come to terms with being the spinster in society as she is still unmarried.

Colin no longer sees her as just his sister Eloise’s shy best friend, but realizes that Penelope is a smart, funny and talented woman. While the rest of London’s high society searches for Lady Whistledown, who is still writing her tabloid, Colin and Penelope grow closer.

Lady Danbury promises £1,000 reward to anyone who reveals Lady Whistledown’s identity. Penelope learns that Colin kept journals during his travels and is enamored with his writing style. During a discussion about it, the two kiss.

At the upcoming ball, Colin wants to apologize for his inglorious behavior, but Cressida Cowper suddenly announces that she is Lady Whistledown. So he postponed his apology to the following day. But then he catches Penelope taking her latest tabloid to her publisher and realizes that she is Lady Whistledown.

He confronts her, an argument ensues and suddenly Colin realizes that he loves Penelope and he becomes very close to her. He proposes to Penelope and she accepts. When Cressida finds out about Penelope’s secret, she tries to blackmail her. But strengthened by her marriage to Colin, Penelope herself reveals that she is Lady Whistledown.

Penelope then supports her husband in rewriting his travel diaries into real novels and publishing them. In the meantime, she has resigned from her work as Whistledown and is concentrating entirely on her work as an editor.

During the plot of Penelope, Eloise’s love story is already hinted at. Eloise disappears at a party held by her sister Dephne, which is why she only finds out about Penelope’s true identity at her own wedding a few weeks later.

So the book could be adapted into the series

In the series, the story will play out a little differently. Already in Season 2 some aspects of the book were covered by Colin returning from his trip to Greece. A 12-year time jump is therefore unlikely in the series. Already in the last season, feelings between Penelope and Colin showed up, but he still dismisses them.

Also, there’s no element of surprise with Lady Whistledown’s revelation, since we’ve known since Season 1 that Penelope was behind the tabloid. Her secret causes a falling out with her best friend Eloise Bridgerton at the end of Season 2.

Cressida’s attempt to blackmail Penelope with the truth could at least lead to Eloise and Penelope getting along again. Eloise is the only person, besides Madame Delacroix, who knows that Penelope is Lady Whistledown.

Perhaps in Penelope’s plight, she realizes that her friend was only doing her a favor in Season 2 when she spilled a secret from Eloise as Lady Whistledown. At least that’s how Penelope was able to dissuade the queen from punishing Eloise for the tabloid, even though she had nothing to do with it.

Bridgerton Season 3: Cast

Nicola Coughlan will reprise the role of Penelope Featherington, while Luke Thompson will continue to play Colin Bridgerton. The other actors and actresses also return in their well-known roles.

However, Francesca Bridgerton was recast. Hannah Dodd will now play the Bridgerton daughter after Ruby Stokes has been absent from other acting engagements in recent seasons.

Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne Basset will also not be part of Season 3. Just like fellow actor Ruby Stokes, this is due to other commitments. A return for a later season is not excluded for the Briton.

Season 3 also introduces Daniel Francis, Sam Phillips and James Phoon. Francis takes on the role of Marcus Anderson, a charismatic socialite whom some of London’s high society dislike.

Phillips plays Lord Debling, an eccentric aristocrat who is besotted by young ladies because of his title and wealth. Phoon, who plays Harry Dankworth, is also considered extraordinarily attractive.

Bridgerton Season 3: Production

The production of “Bridgerton” season 3 is in full swing and the shooting has already been completed. The new season will probably have eight episodes. The series is produced by Shonda Rhimes’ company Shondaland. Showrunner and producer Chris Van Dusen is the brains behind the series.

Bridgerton: “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” spin-off

The romantic love stories in “Bridgerton” are far from over with the eight Bridgerton siblings. The romance of Queen Charlotte and King George is also told in the spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. The marriage of the two nobles was decided on paper, but the marriage obligation quickly turned into love. However, this is not under a good star.
