Holy Three Kings
It starts at the turn of the year 2021/22, but only affects those who work in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Saxony-Anhalt. Because there is January 6th – Epiphany – a public holiday. So if you take a day off from January 3rd to 7th inclusive, you can use a total of nine days off in a row by using four days of vacation.
International Women’s Day in Berlin
Berliners can then look forward to the International Women’s Day on March 8th, which was only introduced in 2019. This falls on a Tuesday in 2022. So how about an extended weekend totaling four days with just one day of vacation?
16 days off over Easter
Easter offers a great vacation. Thanks to Good Friday and Easter Monday, we can get 16 days off in April if we invest eight days of vacation.
Short vacation over Ascension Day
A short vacation is also possible over Ascension Day on May 26th. Since the day falls on a Thursday like every year, the following Friday is ideal as a bridging day. Means: investing a vacation day, booking four days off.
More than a week off over Pentecost
Whitsun as a whole nine days off jump out if employees want to sacrifice four of their vacation days after Whit Monday on June 6th.
A tip: Alternatively, Ascension Day and Pentecost can be combined. Means: Twelve days off in a row (May 26th to June 6th) when six days off are used.
Long weekend over Corpus Christi
In Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony and Thuringia, Corpus Christi can be transformed into a long weekend as usual. The public holiday is on June 16, 2022. Those who take a vacation on the following Friday can relax for a full four days.
Day of German unity
If you fancy a short vacation in October, you can invest four days of vacation and get a whole nine days off by using the Day of German Unity on October 3rd.
November holiday over All Saints’ Day
It looks similar on All Saints’ Day on November 1st. The holiday falls on a Tuesday. If you need a longer recovery in November, you can sacrifice four days of vacation and put your feet up for nine days at a time. However, only employees in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate or Saarland can look forward to this.
Christmas weekend
On the other hand, as in 2021, there are fewer days off over Christmas, as Christmas Eve and Christmas Day fall on the weekend. You can get about nine days with the use of four vacation days.
