Selling emission rights flushes billions into climate funds
A CO₂ tax has also been levied on fuels and heating gas since 2021. The sale of emission rights for the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide brought the state revenues of 12.5 billion euros last year, a record. The money goes to the energy and climate fund. This income made an important contribution to the implementation of the energy transition, financed climate protection projects and would also be used to relieve the burden on consumers, said the President of the Federal Environment Agency Dirk Messner. This shows that climate protection and social equality can go hand in hand.

CES shows technology innovations in Las Vegas

Google takes over Siemplify
Google is buying the Israel-based cybersecurity start-up Siemplify for its cloud business for an amount that has not yet been specified. This emerges from a post on the Google Cloud Blog. The news agency Reuters claims to have learned from people familiar with the deal that Google is paying around $ 500 million for the security specialist. Google cites the increasing threat from cyber attacks on business customers as the reason for the takeover, which they want to counter with Siemplify by strengthening the Google Cloud security team.
