Highly sensitive emails from the immigration office in Lübeck on eBay
Discarded company and government PCs are often interesting bargains on eBay, but sometimes you can find explosive data that should by no means be made public. This is what happened in Lübeck, when a PC from the immigration office was sold on eBay with a hard drive. During the check, the employee of the company that had bought the PC was amazed, because the computer was supposed to be delivered without a hard disk. From the very first glance at the data on the hard drive, it was clear that this find was particularly explosive. The PC contained data from the Lübeck Immigration Office for more than five and a half years. It was about naturalizations, name changes, re-entry bans, wanted notices, deportation orders or registration files: more than 33,000 highly sensitive emails were sold on eBay. Sweden initiates construction of a nuclear waste repository
The Swedish government has approved an application for the construction and operation of a facility for the disposal of spent fuel from nuclear power plants. So far there is no such facility in the world. The repository is to be built in Forsmark, almost 140 km north of the Swedish capital Stockholm. However, it may take another 70 years to complete. A repository is already under construction in neighboring Finland and is expected to be operational by the middle of this decade.

Hamburg wants mandatory labeling for beauty filters
Hamburg is campaigning for mandatory labeling of edited images on social networks. “During our presidency, we also want to raise awareness of the problem areas of the ideal of beauty and the beauty craze on social media platforms,” said Senator for Equal Opportunities Katharina Fegebank, current chairwoman of the Conference of Equal Opportunities and Women’s Ministers. Young women in particular emulated a false ideal of beauty. “If you don’t realize that a lot of what’s being shown isn’t real, it can have dire consequences, including depression or suicidal thoughts,” Fegebank said.
iPhone soon unlockable with mask
Apple has announced that with the next update for iOS 15, it will officially allow current iPhones to be unlocked with facial recognition even when a mask is worn. Instead of scanning the entire face, Face ID’s “mask mode” focuses on the “unique features around the eyes”. However, Apple admits that Face ID with a mask is less secure than the usual full-face matching.
