LONDON (Reuters) – Britain’s Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, tipped as one of the favorites to succeed Prime Minister Boris Johnson, said on Saturday he had decided not to run for the Conservative Party presidency. .

Thanks to his handling of the Ukrainian crisis, Ben Wallace has become the most popular minister in recent months with members of the Conservative Party, overtaking the head of diplomacy Liz Truss, according to a poll by Conservative Home.

“After much thought and discussion with my colleagues and family, I have made the decision not to run for the Conservative Party Presidency,” Ben Wallace tweeted.

“It was not an easy choice to make, but I am focused on my current job and keeping this great country safe,” he added.

So far, four personalities – Rishi Sunak, Tom Tugendhat, Suella Braverman and Kemi Badenoch – have applied to succeed Boris Johnson.
