Britney Spears’ battle for guardianship is entering a new round, and newly exposed court documents now reveal how badly her father, Jamie Spears, really controlled her.

Pop star Britney Spears, 39, has been struggling for years to regain her own freedom of choice over her life and self-earned fortune that was put in the hands of her father Jamie Spears, 68, in 2008.

Britney Spears: Not even decision making over your kitchen cabinets

Her father has such complete control over the singer’s life that he even has the final say on what color her kitchen cabinets are, according to a new report. Britney reportedly told her father, Jamie, that she wanted to repaint the cabinets. Her father, however, sees it differently and thinks such renovation work is too expensive, reports the New York Times, citing confidential court documents. The report now published also states that her father tried to control all aspects of Britney’s life – right down to her private relationships and who she was allowed to date. In addition, it is revealed for the first time that the successful singer and multi-millionaire receives a weekly pocket money of only 2,000 US dollars – the equivalent of around 1,681 euros.

Britney Spears: “My dad is obsessed with controlling my life”

The guardianship of Spears – which is currently still with her father and a finance company – prompted the singer to complain to a court investigator in 2016. Britney told him she was tired of being taken advantage of. She is the one who works and makes the money and everyone around her is on her payroll. Britney also told the investigator that she would like the guardianship regime to end entirely and accuses her father of being almost “obsessed” with controlling her life.

Mental health clinic as punishment for a botched Vegas gig

Britney told the court during a closed hearing that she had been forced to check into a mental health facility against her will in 2019. She reportedly saw it as punishment for a botched Vegas gig while standing on stage with a 40-degree fever. Britney’s father, Jamie, was named her guardian along with attorney Andrew Wallet after her breakdown in 2008. Today, Wednesday, June 23rd, Britney has the great chance to finally regain her freedom when she testifies in court for the first time in 13 years – most likely via zoom – to finally wrest power over her life from father Jamie .
