If you live in a hall of residence, the following rules apply. If your room leads off a generally accessible corridor, it is considered an apartment. This means that the contribution must be paid per room. It doesn’t matter whether you have your own bathroom or kitchen. However, if several rooms are separated from a generally accessible hallway or stairwell by a separate apartment door, this is a flat-sharing community (WG). The contribution must then be paid for each flat share.

Recipients of social benefits such as basic security or unemployment benefit II can be exempted from the license fee.
