Brown spots: a beautician reveals the top 10 anti-stain products: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

Brown spots are a normal and common phenomenon of skin hyperpigmentation. “These pigment spots correspond to irregular, excess and heterogeneous production and storage of melanin on the surface of the skin.“, explained Dr Alexandre Koutsomanis, doctor and cosmetic surgeon in Paris 16th arrondissement. They are mainly due to age and sun exposure. People who are prone to them often seek to make them less visible. This involves, in particular, prevention, by ensuring that you wear sufficient sun protection every day, summer and winter, and reapply it regularly.

But once the spots have set in, there are certain mistakes to avoid so as not to make them worse and we regularly see new tips emerging to tackle pigment spots, like this simple food to apply to the skin to lighten them. The cosmetics industry offers many products, but it is not always easy to navigate.

The 10 active ingredients to use to reduce brown spots according to this beautician

On TikTok, Doris, a beautician who shares her advice and tips under the nickname @theparisianesthetician, revealed the products she considers to be the most effective in reducing dark spots. The one who presents herself as a skincare specialist on her account has listed ten active ingredients that can be integrated into her routine to fight against pigment spots.

  1. Retinoids;
  2. Kojic acid;
  3. Niacinamide;
  4. Azelaic acid;
  5. Alpha arbutin;
  6. Vitamin C;
  7. Tranexamic acid;
  8. Salicylic acid;
  9. Glycolic acid;
  10. Mandelic, lactic and citric acids.

In concrete terms, how does that work ? It all depends on the asset in question. For reitnoids for example, the best known of which is retinol, its interest comes from its exfoliating action which, by ridding the skin of dead cells, will remove excess pigment. Kojic acid, azealic acid and alpha arbutin inhibit tyrosinase, an enzyme responsible for the formation of melanin in the skin. If we focus on vitamin C, it is used because it has antioxidant properties and unifies and brings radiance to the complexion.

The beautician nevertheless specifies that this is a “personal ranking” and “all assets have different actions on each“. The ideal therefore remains to educate yourself, test products to find the one that best suits your skin and, ideally, to seek advice from your dermatologist.
