Bruno Retailleau urges Emmanuel Macron to introduce himself

Less than three months from the first round, Bruno Retailleau urged Emmanuel Macron to campaign.

In the 7/9 of France Inter, Tuesday, the senator from Vendée and president of the LR group in the Senate Bruno Retailleau urged Emmanuel Macron to campaign in order to offer a real debate to the French, who are turning away from politics a little more each day. As he explains: “I knew the campaign alongside François Fillon who spoke about major subjects but who was swallowed up by the legal chronicle”. The senator says he regrets that such a spectacle took place and asks Emmanuel Macron to formalize his candidacy as soon as possible so as not to deprive the French of democratic debates. He takes as a counter-example the 2017 campaign which was not, according to him, a “democratic campaign”.

“Emmanuel Macron is trying, with the Covid, to put this campaign under the damper”

Not tender with the outgoing president, Bruno Retailleau added that “Emmanuel Macron is trying, with the Covid, to put this campaign under the damper.” The senator is not the only one to have criticized what some might call a “politician technique” and which would aim to talk about the Covid as much as possible so as not to have to talk about other subjects.

According to him, if the Head of State continues in this direction, then there “will be a lot of anger” in the population and this will have long-term effects, including in the votes. Bruno Retailleau calls on the president “to go before the French in order to present his results to them, because politics is not just about making big speeches”.

In view of a recent poll which shows that only 52% of French people are interested in the presidential election, against 78% in 2017, this cry from the heart of the Vendée senator seems to fit with the vision that the population has, more and more , politics.
