budget, excluding Olympics, up 7%

The sports budget is up 7.3%, excluding credits allocated to the Olympics, to 888.9 million euros compared to 828.3 million in 2023 according to figures communicated on Wednesday by the Ministry of Sports.

With the Olympic envelope, the budget increases from 1.123 billion euros in 2023 to 1.022 billion euros in 2024. As planned, this envelope dedicated to the Olympic Games, essentially the public funds devoted to Solideo (the delivery company of the Olympic works) responsible for constructing the works taken, a mission which it is in the process of completing, is in decline this year.

It is 133.7 million compared to 295 million in 2023 (296 million in 2022, 225 million in 2021, 129 million in 2020), including 33.5 million euros due to inflation for Solideo alone. Of these 133.5 million, 30 million is a surplus to the Olympic organizing committee for the organization of the Paralympic Games.

The National Sports Agency (ANS) will receive an allocation of 437 million euros.

In addition, 18.6 million euros are budgeted for bonuses for future Olympic medalists and their supervisors, as well as 5.4 million euros for support for the JOP (endowment to the French Olympic committee), 6.7 million euros for the Winning in France program and 4 million for the territorial animation of the Olympic Games, and the rest of the popular ticketing (5.5 M EUR out of 11 M EUR).

In addition, 10.5 million euros are earmarked for physical and sporting activity, a major national cause in 2024.

The new plan for 5,000 sports facilities recently announced for an amount of 300 million euros sees a first tranche of 100 million euros included in the 2024 Finance bill.

The two-hour sports program for middle school students, which is deployed in 2023-2024 in 711 colleges with the objective of 2,000 for the start of the school year in 2024 according to the Minister of Sports, receives an envelope of 14.6 million euros.

The Sports Pass, assistance of 50 euros for registration in a sports club for young people, will be budgeted at 85 million euros this year.

Another part of the budget extension for the organizing committee, decided in December 2022, will be included in a subsequent amending bill for an amount of 44.5 million euros.
