The MOB and SOB are said to have built railway structures without a permit. The railway companies are defending themselves against the allegations.

The Montreux-Oberland-Bahn (MOB) runs from Lake Geneva to the Bernese Alps – and now has an ad stuck to its neck. The same applies to the south-eastern railway (SOB).

The MOB is suspected of having erected railway buildings in Schönried BE station without a permit. This was announced by the Federal Office of Transport (BAV) on Wednesday.

At the SOB, a retaining wall near Krummenau SG is said to have been built without a permit. In both cases, the railways have meanwhile received the building permit for the projects, according to the BAV.

New Goldenpass Express causes problems

The new Goldenpass trains were supposed to run from Montreux to Interlaken since the timetable change – and switch from narrow to standard gauge in Zweisimmen. The ripcord had to be pulled just a few weeks after the inauguration of the gauge change facility. Because the wheels were causing excessive wear on the rails on the BLS network in the direction of Interlaken, the new trains only run as far as Zweisimmen.

“The analysis of the interaction between wheel and rail is complex,” said the railway company at the time. It is still uncertain when the new trains will run again on the planned Montreux-Interlaken route.

The railway companies are not amused about the actions of the BAV: The criminal complaint is not justified, it said at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency at the MOB.

The adjustments at Schönried station are ongoing improvement work, also for the purpose of safety projects.

The SOB also commented on the criminal complaint: The retaining wall near Krummenau mentioned by the BAV was planned and implemented between 2017 and 2019, the regional train announced.

The SOB had commissioned a lawyer to process the case and could not comment on the ongoing proceedings, it said.
