Bumblebee: Will there be more "Transformers" movies?

The "Transformers" spin-off "Bumblebee" with Hailee Steinfeld celebrates its German free TV premiere. What about the future of the Autobots?

Is the cinematic "Transformers" era over? The fifth and so far last part of the original series, "Transformers: The Last Knight", was released in 2017. The spin-off and prequel "Bumblebee" (2018) followed a year later with, among others, Hailee Steinfeld (23, "Pitch Perfect 2") and John Cena (43, "Chaos at the fire station") (at 8:15 p.m., on ProSieben) celebrates German free TV premiere. The end of the Autobots and Decepticons should not have been the prehistory of Bumblebee. Further films are planned.

This is how the "Transformers" franchise is supposed to continue

In January of this year, various US media reported unanimously that the Paramount film studio wanted to completely revamp the "Transformers" series. At that time there was talk of two new films that were being planned. One script comes from the pen of the author Joby Harold, who co-wrote "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" (2017). The plot of the film should be anchored in the "Bumblebee" universe. It is unclear whether it is a direct sequel.

The other script was written by James Vanderbilt, who wrote "Zodiac" (2007). This project is said to be a spin-off called "Beast Wars" in which robots turn into robotic animals such as a cheetah, a gorilla and a rhinoceros.

Paramount announced a new "Transformers" movie for summer 2022 in May. However, it is not known which of the two projects was meant. It is also still questionable whether the planned theatrical release can be kept. The corona pandemic continues to affect the film industry.

In addition, an animated "Transformers" prequel will come to the cinema, as was reported at the end of April. "A Toy Story: Everything does not listen to any command" director Josh Cooley is to implement the animated film based on a script by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. You were involved in the script for "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (2018). The prequel to the live-action series aims to explore the origins of Megatron and the conflict between the Autobots and the Decepticons. Further details are not yet known.
