The Federal Council is refraining from a trip to Beijing – officially because of the “uncertain pandemic situation”. The Vaud State Council assesses the situation differently. The anticipation is of course limited.
Last Wednesday, the Federal Council made a definitive decision: after it had previously announced that it wanted to attend the Beijing Winter Olympics, the announcement of the waiver finally followed. The decision was justified with the “uncertain pandemic situation in Switzerland”. In addition, “no substantial bilateral meetings” are currently possible in China.
