Our colleagues from Society reveal the story of Michel Rétif. Now deceased, he was one of the closest friends of Xavier de Ligonnès.

Almost 12 years ago, Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès disappeared after the murder of his family. Over the years, startling new revelations have been made about France’s most wanted man. Although he still remains untraceable today, the investigators do not despair as new developments come to feed the research. More than ten years after the facts, we learn, for example, that Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès did not tolerate the infidelities of his wife Agnès.

Following a second survey conducted over four years by our colleagues from the magazine Society, we learn more about the story of Michel Rétif, one of the closest friends of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès. The two salespeople met in the 1980s before cementing their friendship during a trip to the United States between 1989 and 1990 during which they visited 48 of the 50 American states. A friendship that was altogether banal until the beginning of the 2000s, a period during which Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès encountered difficulties in his relationship, says Society.

Michel Rétif flirted with Agnès Dupont de Ligonnès

We are in 2005 when the couple of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès is in a bad way. His wife, Agnès, then began a virtual and then concrete relationship with Michel Rétif. Shortly after, he and the couple then form a love triangle which will change the nature of the relationship of the trio, specify our colleagues from the magazine.

By the nature of his relationship with the fugitive, Michel Rétif is logically among the suspects questioned during the investigation. And if there is no evidence to prove his guilt, some facts remain intriguing to say the least. The day after the murder of the last member of the family, Michel Rétif is the only person to have contacted Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès by telephone, and during the last night “known” of the wanted man, the two friends were within ten kilometers of each other.

However, there is nothing to confirm today that Michel Rétif covered for his friend’s escape. The 53-year-old cancer patient committed suicide in 2018, taking his secrets with him. “In this investigation, we wanted to show that the friends, family, relatives linked to this investigation have suffered from all the suspicions that may have weighed on them”write our colleagues from Society.
