(Reuters) – Chinese electric car maker BYD has held discussions with Brazilian lithium producer Sigma Lithium over a possible supply deal, joint venture or acquisition, the Financial Times reported on Sunday, citing the BYD executive for Brazil, Alexandre Baldy.

BYD met the general director of Sigma Ana Cabral Gardner in Sao Paulo last month, Alexandre Baldy added to the British daily, without further details.

BYD and Sigma did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.

Sigma announced in January that it had initiated an initial public offering of Sigma Brazil on the American Nasdaq and the Singapore Stock Exchange.

BYD, supported by Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway company, for its part announced in July its intention to invest three billion reais (around 550 million euros) in a new industrial complex in the North-East of Brazil, including operations could start in mid-2024.
