Cabaret premiere – “Christmas can be fun again”

The two Vorarlberg neo-cabaret artists Sandra Aberer and Marlies Kupnik have been in the Christmas spirit since April. What does that mean? The “crown” reveals the secret.

In a few weeks it will begin, the most contemplative time of the year. For the majority of people in Vorarlberg, the stress and hectic pace only begins: Do I have the right gift for my mother-in-law? What colors should I decorate the Christmas tree in and what will be on the table on Christmas Eve? “There are a lot of little things that can completely ruin every Christmas and you get upset about them every year,” says Sandra Aberer. This time, the presenter and director is taking the plunge with the Christmas cabaret “Alle Jahr (ned scho) wiedr”. even on stage. Marlies Kupnik, who has also tasted blood in various theater and cabaret productions, is on board. The two “sweethearts” got to know each other some time ago through these points of overlap. However, it was not yet possible to estimate at the time that they would soon be working together on a cabaret program… A fortune teller predicted the success. Barbara Balldini is largely to blame for the new project. Sandra Aberer has been working with the popular “Sexpert” for many years and directs her programs. It was Balldini who lovingly nudged Aberer again and again to be on stage herself. She even arranged an appointment with a fortune teller for this purpose. “So the next day I called a lady from Switzerland – and she spoke well to me and predicted that my cabaret debut would be a success.” A little later, Sandra Aberer had already pushed the prophecy away and went back to everyday mode . However, “Die Balldini” didn’t let up and literally forced her director to arrange the first dates for her own cabaret. “Now I couldn’t get along anymore. But then I also felt that I was ready to put something on stage myself.” But what? “Rediscover the festival for yourself.” After a restless night, she called her friend Marlies Kupnik to get her on board : “I wanted to have a quiet summer, but I couldn’t resist Sandra’s powers of persuasion.” The theme for her program was quickly decided: it should be Christmas. “There are so many stories about Christmas. We were able to make full use of it.” Since the work started in spring, the two of them have been in the Christmas spirit for months: “In May we ordered tinsel and packed packages so that we could do our photo shoot.” The first Christmas products were really longed for in the supermarket. “Otherwise you always complain when the Christmas gingerbreads are already on the shelves in August, but this time we were happy about it.” In any case, the audience will be in for a real “tinsel storm”. However, with nuances and a clear message: ” Christmas can be fun again. Why not break with all expectations and rediscover the holiday for yourself?” And very important: “Laugh at yourself!” The premiere of “Alle Jahr (ned scho) wiedr” takes place on November 28th ( 8 p.m.) in the Löwensaal Hohenems across the stage.
