CAC40: declines at the end of the session, penalized by Thalès


(CercleFinance.com) – After spending most of the day close to its equilibrium point, the Paris Stock Exchange lost ground in the last minutes of trading: it finally ended the session with a decline of 0.37 %, at 7265 points, its lowest level of the day.

The Parisian index is notably pulled down by Thalès which drops 2.2%, behind LVMH (-1.3%) and Bnp Paribas (-1%).

The only statistic on today’s menu, the 5.6% fall in sales of new individual homes in the United States – after a jump of 8.6% in September – did not move the markets.

The Department of Commerce also indicates that the median price of homes stood at $409,300 and the average price at $487,000 (an all-time high).

The stock of new homes for sale represents 439,000, or a reserve of approximately 7.8 months at the current rate of sales.

Investors will closely monitor the indicators expected this week, hoping that they will help refine predictions about the possible end of the cycle of rate increases that has so far driven the trend.

Thus, inflation in the euro zone is expected on Thursday and the consensus expects a decline to 4% in basic data, compared to 4.2% in October.

American statistics will also be analyzed carefully because they will reflect, among other things, the state of consumer spending, which remains the main engine of growth across the Atlantic.

Household spending in the United States, also expected on Thursday, will give an overview of the consumer’s propensity to spend at the end of the year, while retail sales fell in October (but rebounded strongly this weekend). .

This publication will be accompanied by the ‘core’ PCE index for the month of October, which remains the ‘reference’ measure of inflation for the American Federal Reserve.

More generally, a new estimate of American growth – expected tomorrow – then the ISM manufacturing index which will appear on Friday will allow us to know whether the economy continues to hold up well.

While the scores are insignificant on the stock market indices, gold stands out with a gain of +0.2% around 2005$/ounce: this could be a mechanical consequence of a clear easing of rates this Monday with -5Pts base on US T-Bonds (towards 4.433%) and -8Pts on our OATs towards 3.120% and -8.5Pts on Bunds towards 2.561%.

In French company news, Valneva announces that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has deemed admissible its marketing authorization application (MA) for its single-dose vaccine candidate against chikungunya VLA1553.

Veolia announces that it has signed an agreement for the acquisition by NGE, an independent public works group, of SADE-CGTH, its subsidiary for the construction and rehabilitation of water networks and infrastructure, for an amount in value business of 260 million euros.

Alstom announces a pioneering Eurobalise (a safety-critical device transmitting data from track to train) that integrates simplified ERTMS encoding functionality to serve multiple use cases.

Air France-KLM and Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, announce a new partnership between their respective loyalty programs, following the memorandum of understanding signed between the two air carriers in September 2023.

Finally, Lhyfe announced on Monday that it had been selected by Nantes and the port of Saint-Nazaire to develop a green hydrogen production site intended to decarbonize the port ecosystem ‘on a large scale’.
