CAC40: falls below 7100 pts, penalized by Edenred


(CercleFinance.com) – At half mast since mid-session, the CAC40 concluded the day with a decline of 0.94%, to 7,068 points, notably penalized by the declines of Edenred (-11%), Saint-Gobain ( -3.8%) or even Worldline (-3.2%).

Let us remember that across the Atlantic, an agreement was reached at the last minute this weekend in order to avoid a ‘shutdown’, that is to say a partial closure of the federal administration in the United States.

‘The agreement for provisional financing will only last until November 17,’ Commerzbank recalls, however, warning that ‘consequently, a new edition of the budgetary drama is looming in a few weeks’.

In the meantime, this agreement will make it possible to avoid a postponement of the publications of certain American data, such as industrial orders and the trade balance for the month of August, and especially the official employment report for September.

On the statistics front, the United States manufacturing sector is seeing its decline slow, according to the S&P Global PMI index which ultimately rose to 49.8 in September (revised from a flash estimate of 48.9) , after 47.9 the previous month.

In the euro zone, the HCOB PMI index for the euro zone manufacturing industry fell very slightly compared to the previous month, falling from 43.5 to 43.4, signaling a further deterioration in the industrial situation of the euro zone.

The HCOB PMI index for the French manufacturing industry, produced by S&P Global, fell from 46 in August to 44.2 in September, falling further below the 50 mark without change and posting its lowest level since May 2020.

Finally, the unemployment rate in the euro zone stood at 6.4% in August on a seasonally adjusted basis, compared to 6.5% the previous month, Eurostat announced. In the EU, the unemployment rate stood at 5.9% in August 2023, down from the rate of 6.0% recorded in July 2023.

In securities news, Casino announces that it has completed the sale of the first wave of 61 points of sale to Groupement Les Mousquetaires and extended the deadline until October 3 to conclude a lock-up agreement with its creditors.

Operators will also be able to react to the results revealed by the agri-food group Bonduelle for its 2022-23 financial year or those of the health IT specialist Equasens for the first six months of the year.

Airbus announces that LATAM Airlines has taken delivery of its first A321neo leased from AerCap and has placed an order for 13 additional A321neos to expand its route network and drive regional growth.

Barclays raises its recommendation on Vivendi from ‘weight in line’ to ‘overweight’ with an adjusted price target of 11.5 to 11.6 euros, highlighting in particular a cheap valuation for the French communications and entertainment group.

Finally, Suez announces the acquisition of DCW in the United Kingdom. This new acquisition confirms Suez’s confidence in the British market and strengthens its position as a major global player in the waste sector.

Suez also announced an inaugural bond issue in pounds sterling for an amount of 600 million in Green format. This issue is made at an annual fixed rate of 6.625% and with a maturity of 20 years.
