At the moment, no specific date regarding the release of Modern Warfare 2 has been set although we know for sure that this new Call of Duty game will be released in 2022, in accordance with Activision’s annual cycle.

However, given the usual release window, we can always make some guesses. With the vast majority of previous games released between October and November, we can expect the trend to continue here.

Moreover, many leakers have recently indicated that the launch could happen in October following the lackluster sales of Vanguard. An earlier launch for multiplayer could thus be followed by a “big Warzone update shortly after“.

No specific platform has yet been announced for Modern Warfare 2, but as with its release date, the trend of previous years should continue.

As Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard are both cross-gen titles, we can expect Modern Warfare 2 to be too. Modern Warfare 2 will likely be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, as well as on PC.

Call of Duty 2022: Modern Warfare 2 Leaks

Even before Vanguard made its debut, several pieces of information had already surfaced regarding Call of Duty 2022. As early as September, leaks had announced that “Project Cortez” would be a direct sequel to Modern Warfare 2019.

Players will join US Special Forces in a “secret war against Colombian drug cartels”, according to VGC. This campaign “would look like Red Dead Redemption 2”, with a lot of realism, gore and unique death animations.

On the multiplayer side, 5 iconic Modern Warfare maps are said to be in development for the 2022 version: Favela, Terminal, Highrise, Shipment and Quarry.

Call of Duty 2022: Modern Warfare 2 Modes

Modern Warfare 2 would introduce a new game mode similar to Escape From Tarkov. “The objective of this mode is to accumulate loot in several separate maps, before successfully extracting it”, says a source.

With a player count between 20 and 35, this new mode is expected to be an independent gaming experience, akin to Warzone.

Shortly after, a new leak lifted the lid on another game mode, inspired by Rainbow Six. simply called “Attackers versus Defenders”, this mode would split players into 2 teams. The aim of the attackers would be to complete an objective before time runs out while the defenders should “develop a plan to slow down or completely stop the attackers”.

To do this players would have a number of features at their disposal. As in Rainbow Six Siege, defenders could set traps, hide, and even use cameras to spot attackers.

Moreover, the teams would even have the possibility of “strengthen” certain areas, the destruction visibly playing “a major role” in this mode.
