The months-long saga surrounding Microsoft’s takeover of Activision Blizzard could soon be coming to an end, and official announcements are starting to appear.
If all goes well, the series editor Call of DutyofOverwatch 2 and of Diablo IV should soon come under the control of the Redmond firm. Even if it is not yet official, Friday October 13 promises to be a very important day in the world of video games.
But now that we are almost there, it remains to be seen how the $69 billion paid by Microsoft for this acquisition will materialize in the months to come.
Diablo And Call of Duty at the top of the list
Games from studios acquired by Microsoft have an unfortunate tendency to end up in Xbox Game Pass. Things happened this way with Bethesda, and there is no reason why it should be any different with Activision Blizzard. The question would rather be to know when they will appear on the subscription service of the American giant.
It is the publisher of Call of Duty himself who gave us a clue. On X.com (formerly Twitter), he announced that none of his titles will arrive on Game Pass in 2023. But don’t panic, the end of the year is not that far away, and subscribers serving Microsoft should be able to benefit from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and of Diablo IV “ during the next year “.
Activision Blizzard is therefore not getting involved any further, but at least we know what to expect before the end of year holidays. However, we can see that things finally seem to be taking shape on the side of the American publisher’s teams and those of its (perhaps) next owner. It remains to be seen what will happen to the other flagship license concerned, namely World of Warcraft. Will the MMORPG subscription be included in Game Pass?
No mention either of the partnership with Ubisoft, which should hold the rights to cloud gaming for Activision Blizzard games. But let’s not put the cart before the horse: things will surely accelerate in the days to come.
