Campbell’s sells candles that smell like tomato soup and grilled cheese

You come home from a long walk and are greeted by candlelight and the smell of warming soup. Except there’s no soup. The scent comes from your new Campbell’s candles.

This winter, the American soup company Campbell’s has come up with something very special. The brainstorming meeting must have gone something like this: “What looks like soup, smells like soup, warms like soup, but isn’t soup?” and there it was, the idea. Although, the French shop Ligne Blanche Paris had submitted some time ago for its Andy Warhol collection. But the Ligne Blanche candle only smells of tomato leaf, basil and mint.

At Campbell’s, on the other hand, the motto is: if you do, then do it! The two fragrances created are called Chicken Noodle Soup and Tomato Soup & Grilled Cheese, i.e. chicken soup and tomato soup with grilled cheese. yummy The scent of the first candle is described as “notes of hearty chicken, cloves and buttery crackers”. The second soup, uh, candle variant is described as “roasted tomatoes, peppercorns and melted cheese”.

So if that isn’t the scent of winter! According to Campbell’s Marketing Director Linda Lee, there are more fragrances to look forward to: “Campbell’s can’t wait to bring more candles to create family moments and memories,” she says on foodandwine.com. The candles are available on the company’s website and cost the equivalent of around 20 francs.

Campbell’s isn’t the only company playing with its customers’ memories created by scents: last summer, to mark the tenth anniversary of the “Ikea Family” program, the furniture store presented the “Huvudroll” meatballs, probably the most famous dish of the Ikea restaurant, immortalized as a candle scent.

The next time you invite your family over for dinner, why not surprise them with tomato soup, chicken soup, or meatballs. In the form of candles, of course – this keeps the apartment neat and tidy and the kitchen clean.
