Rolex, Porsche, Leica, Dragon Ball, Pokémon… numerous partnerships have been established by high-tech product brands in order to attract a new audience. Are you one of them?

This week we heard for the first time about a smartphone inspired by the Rolex brand, the very famous luxury watchmaker. If at 50 you don’t have this smartphone, have you missed your life? Not really, but it’s interesting to see that a luxury brand attached to a mid-range smartphone can serve as a marketing argument.

Multiple partnerships

This is not the first time that the smartphone market has used a famous name to sell its products and Realme, which collaborates with Rolex, is also a very big fan of it. We can notably cite its partnerships with big names in manga such as Naruto and Dragon Ball.

Even the number one has given in to this call with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Pokémon Edition or its cases for Galaxy Buds like some of the pocket monsters. The Galaxy Z Flip, with its positioning “fashion» lends itself very well to the exercise since it was also entitled to a special edition designed with designer Thom Browne.

Luxury cars also had their moment of glory on our smartphones. Huawei had teamed up with Porsche Design for several of its phones, while OnePlus had opted for McLaren and Oppo for Lamborghini.

If brands continue on this path, it is certainly because there is an interested public, but we must admit that at the Frandroid editorial team, we are not very receptive to this type of product beyond the first hour handling. While we salute the research effort, it is rare that one of us can fall for this kind of design.
