It could be that the jokes about “Google translation” will soon no longer be relevant thanks to the reinforcement of artificial intelligence.
Google intends to take advantage of its new workhorse, AI, to strengthen the capacities of its (sadly?) famous translator.

Among the main criticisms made of Google Translate, we can cite in particular an overly literal translation that does not take the context into account. This should finally change with the help of artificial intelligence.
Currently available in English, French, German and Japanese, a new feature will indeed come to erase this important pitfall. By searching for an expression, Google Translate will offer descriptions and examples in the target language.
Google’s blog takes as an example searching for a ” bar » or seek to order « bar in a restaurant (a distinction that Google Translate had a hard time making until now). The application will therefore offer different turns and expressions around a word with multiple meanings, to avoid annoying translations as much as possible.
Improvements at several levels
In addition to being more relevant with different contexts, Google Translate will also evolve on many other points. Artificial intelligence has indeed developed a new capacity for the application: the proposal of a translation from an image.
This feature works both for online images and for photos saved on your device. The machine learning associated with the AI supporting Google Translate will also make it possible to associate both texts and images for a more complex translation, a priori without doing anything.
In addition to the improvements enabled by AI, Google Translate is also getting a makeover in terms of its design and accessibility. The application gains in readability and is reinforced with new gestures for more ergonomic navigation. 33 new languages are also taking the opportunity to join the party, including Corsican.
