Canada: Canada: Beavers nibble on fiber optic cables

According to local media reports, the rodents nibbled on an important fiber optic cable in several places when the dam was being built. Technicians found out on Saturday that the beavers in a nearby stream had dug their way down to the cable that was about one meter deep. Then they would have bitten through the approximately twelve centimeters thick panel.

“That was a bizarre and uniquely Canadian phrase,” the state broadcaster CBC quoted a spokeswoman for the company. The beavers apparently also used the marking tape on the cable to build the dam. Despite freezing temperatures, the technicians could have repaired the damage by Sunday afternoon. Tumbler Ridge is located near the Canadian Rocky Mountains and has a total of about 2000 inhabitants.
