His longtime friend Reiner Calmund has known for a few months that soccer great Christoph Daum has cancer.
A few days ago, football coach Christoph Daum (69) via his official Instagram account announced that she had been undergoing treatment for cancer for some time. One of his closest confidants from the past Bayer-Leverkusen days, soccer manager and TV personality Reiner Calmund (73), Daum apparently announced shortly after the diagnosis, like “Calli” now “Picture”– newspaper gave away.
He has therefore known since July 2022. At that time, the two long-time friends sat together in the “Football for Know-It-All” quiz on the Sport1 channel. Shortly after Daum’s last TV appearance so far, he finally confided in Calmund: “At the time, nobody knew about Christoph’s illness, you didn’t see it either. Two hours after the show, we sat in Christoph’s garden and he revealed it me that he has cancer.”
Both men are optimistic
As in his Instagram post from October 21, Daum was already in good spirits to be able to defeat the serious illness. According to Calmund, he was “directly combative” and “promised me that he would beat cancer. I share his optimism and I am firmly convinced that he will recover.” Since then, he has been visiting Daum regularly for mental support.
Daum recently revealed via Instagram that the cancer was discovered during a routine checkup and that it has been under treatment ever since. The therapy would “work very well” for him. In order to be able to concentrate on his health, Daum also asks for privacy. Nevertheless, he is happy “about your positive news and thank you for your support”. His final appeal to his followers: “I can only advise you all: Go to cancer screening in good time!”
