Candy, colorful posters, promise of employment in 10 minutes: faced with the recruitment crisis, the Nantes University Hospital, the main employer in Pays de la Loire, wanted to “create the event” by organizing its first “job dating” on Wednesday all trades.
Objective: to provide some 150 fixed-term contracts for next summer but also to offer an unspecified number of permanent contracts in various trades. Nursing assistants and night nurses are the most sought-after profiles.
“The job market has tensed since the Covid crisis and we need to create the event”, explains to AFP Luc-Olivier Machon, director of the human resources division of the Nantes University Hospital.
All day long, in a stone reception room of the Saint-Jacques hospital, candidates flocked to the stands displaying the different functions of the hospital (administrative, logistics, kitchen, IT, geriatrics, rehabilitation, psychiatry, etc.) . Only conditions to participate: bring a CV and wear a mask.
On the nursing side, many nursing students are looking for a job for the end of their studies, next July.
“I always knew I wanted to do this job and I feel useful in what I do,” says Justine Hardy, 20, in her final year at the Institute of Nursing (IFSI). Her eyes sparkle with joy, she has just obtained in ten minutes a promise of employment on September 18th.
“It’s a fixed-term position but she will have no trouble continuing in our services”, comments Laure Mallay, health manager at the medicine, emergencies and prevention centre. “It is more difficult to fill the positions of nurses or caregivers available immediately”.

On the psychiatry stand, the nurse Joffrey Martin, who hosted his first “job dating”, met “interesting candidates who have a skill in art therapy or sophrology”.
The hospital is also looking for cooks, heating engineers and other electricians.
Gäel Riochet, 56, looking for a job after selling his press tobacco business, came to find out about a position in logistics or cooking, on the advice of Pôle emploi. “I’m looking for job security, especially now that we’re going to have to work longer!”.
Damien Jouanneau, assistant catering engineer at the CHU, welcomes self-taught people of all ages.

“We appreciate people who have worked in a service profession, in contact with others, he describes. We also attract people from large retailers who are looking for slightly less restrictive working hours”.
Nicolas Boulanger, 42, is one of the rare qualified cooks to present himself. “I worked a lot in catering on the right and on the left, he confides. Today, I aspire to land myself in a stable job”.
It is also this prospect of stability that attracts Shake Snjoyan, 21, a part-time interpreter of Russian, Kurdish and English to an association in Nantes.
“I have just had a very good interview for an administrative position but I learned that I had to have the three Covid vaccines, she says. This is not my case because I am very afraid of side effects. But for a CDI, I will think about it.
The largest employer in the Pays de la Loire region with 13,000 employees, the establishment carries out an average of 1,800 recruitments per year linked to retirements, turnover and various leaves.
