Cannes 2024: “Furiosa”, “Joker 2”, “Gladiator 2” and Co. – Possible blockbusters at the film festival

Many film lovers are eagerly awaiting the upcoming Oscars, which will be presented on March 11, 2024 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. The historical epic “Oppenheimer” with Cillian Murphy in particular has the best chance of winning big at this year’s awards ceremony.

But the Cannes International Film Festival is not far away and, as always, will show many long-awaited film highlights in May 2024. Numerous blockbusters have been announced for this year, including “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” with Anya Taylor-Joy (“Dune 2”) and Chris Hemsworth (“Tyler Rake – Extraction 2”) as well as “Gladiator 2” from star director Ridley Scott with an all-star cast of Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”), Paul Mescal and Joseph Quinn (“Stranger Things”).

A film premiere in Cannes is not yet guaranteed for most blockbusters, but according to the US online portal Deadline, some highly sought-after films with well-known directors and stars could be on the shortlist for this year’s festival. This includes:

• “Joker: Folie A Deux” with Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson (Director: Todd Phillips)
• “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” with Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Catherine O’Hara, Willem Dafoe (Director: Tim Burton)
• “Wolfs” with Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams (Director: Jon Watts)
• “Juror No. 2” with Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, Zoey Deutch, Kiefer Sutherland, JK Simmons (Director: Clint Eastwood)
• “Kinds Of Kindness” with Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Joe Alwyn, Hunter Schafer (Director: Yorgos Lanthimos)
• “Megalopolis” with Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Shia LaBeouf (Director: Francis Ford Coppola)

After its release in Cannes in May, viewers can also look forward to a release in German cinemas soon. However, the exact start dates for your favorites this year have yet to be announced.
