Cannes Film Festival: the day Titanium caused nervous breakdowns and nausea among spectators

During the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, the screening of the film “Titane” by Julia Ducournau with Vincent Lindon caused some discomfort in Cannes. So much so that some spectators could not stay until the end of the film.

This is a film that did not fail to arouse reactions that were, to say the least…unexpected. On July 13, 2021, five years after the release of SevereJulia Ducournau presented her latest film Titanium at the Cannes Film Festival. A thriller set against a background of psychological drama in which Vincent Lindon goes in search of his son who has been missing for ten years. The feature film faithful to the style of its director, deliberately trashy, disturbing and bordering on gore also features a serial killer out of control. What make some of the spectators uncomfortable who did not remain indifferent during the viewing of this film in the running for the Palme d’Or.

As reported by Figaroin the hall of the Palais des Festivals, discomfort was palpable throughout the session. According to theAFP, around twenty spectators even had to be evacuated and taken care of by the firefighters, posted around the room in anticipation of possible reactions to this film. Between fainting, nervous breakdowns and vomiting, Cannes is likely to remember this eventful screening for a long time. Some even preferred to leave the room before the end of the film, the images were so unbearable: “What movie? We haven’t seen a movie (…) It made me want to vomit, leave, sleep, close my eyes, do something else” explained on BFM TVone audience member rushed out, while another acknowledges that “It was very weird…awkward.”

Vincent Lindon physically transformed in “Titanium”

Note that in Titanium, Vincent Lindon reveals himself as we have never seen him before. For the purposes of the film, the father of Suzanne Lindon had to undergo an incredible physical transformation. He indeed appears almost bodybuilt on the screen: “I have always been athletic, but I did extensive training for a year and a half. Bench press, dumbbells, running” he explained to JDDrevealing that he also had to learn the trade of a firefighter: “I did a few night shifts and interventions with the firefighters of Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois to capture the atmosphere, the manners and the words”. A shoot that was not easy.
