Our appreciation of Captain Tsubasa Anime Comics remains mixed on the whole, even if over the publications we ended up appreciating it better. This is tied to the progress of the story of the series, the narrative keeps getting more engaging. Indeed, season 2 of the anime comics returns to emblematic sequences of the series, and this last volume is a good example of the evolution of the story and of our opinion.
The awakening of the tiger
As we said in the introduction, this volume 3 of Captain Tsubasa Anime Comics illustrates well the evolution of the series which gains in depth and interest over the chapters. Therefore, this last volume offers a much more sustained rhythm than its predecessors. Not so surprising, since almost the entire volume will be devoted to the grand finale, the long-awaited match between Nankatsu and Toho. Between Tsubasa’s team and Kojiro’s team.
An important and intense match, visually already, but above all narratively speaking thanks to interesting and relevant stakes for the main characters. Particularly concerning Kojiro who, although set back from the field in this season 2, is nonetheless the character who impacts the story the most. In addition to proving to be the one with the most impactful writing.
This work on Kojiro, and his setting aside while accentuating his psychological depth, allows the work to better highlight other characters, in particular the cult figures of Toho. This makes it possible to realize the aura and the weight of Kojiro in the series. As well as the parallel made between him and Tsubasa, not to mention the relationship they have with their respective teams. Last chapters that have a lot to tell.
Deathmatch
Moreover, level sequences of actions we are served. The final match is of a rare intensity, not yet achieved so far in the series, there is a lot going on on the pitch. Several techniques are used and the cutting of the action transcribes this frenetic rhythm quite well. Well paced, you won’t get bored in this volume 3 of Captain Tsubasa Anime Comics.
We see that the match is tough, like this season for Tsubasa and Kojiro. The stakes here are more personal, the important thing being less the victory in itself than the repercussions which will result from it and the psychological evolution of the heroes. Visually, we inevitably have the recurring concerns of anime comics, precisely in the transcription of action scenes and the feeling of power that can emerge from them. Once again, these are losing momentum.
The anime comics format does not lend itself to this task. However, because of their number, the rhythm or even the stakes, everything often works better in this volume. We at least have the impression, this time, that the cutting and the cuts are coherent, they sabotage the situations less. Which was not always the case on the first volumes. But with a match almost holding the volume on its own, we can say that the latter Captain Tsubasa Anime Comics is doing well.
Should we fall for Captain Tsubasa Season 2 Volume 3?
Of course, if you already have the first parts, it goes without saying that you must have this last volume. In addition, the expected finale is effective and is pleasant enough to follow. The entire segment on Kojiro ends the character’s narrative arc in a beautiful way, which still has a few surprises in store. Then it is in these chapters that we really become aware of the full power of the character. He is more than a rival, there is a real evolution in his personality and his vision of the world.

Finally, the rhythm and intensity of the match offers a volume 3 of the most pleasant to read. Despite an end that seems a bit more abrupt than in the anime, because this volume is very dynamic, which causes a certain imbalance with very little dead time.
