So she said goodbye to the “daily topics”.

The “Tagesthemen” are rarely this emotional: all colleagues came to the studio to say goodbye to Caren Miosga.

After 16 years Caren Miosga (54) said goodbye to the “Tagesthemen” on Thursday evening (October 5th) as the longest-serving spokeswoman. While she initially led the show confidently as usual, things got really emotional at the end.

“Heavy and wistful”

“Yes, now I feel a bit like a character from a John Fosse play,” said Caren Miosga at the end, addressing the audience. She feels “heavy and wistful” that she has to say goodbye after 16 years. But she is “of course also very happy to have been part of an editorial team for so long that tries to understand this world and make it understandable for you.”

A lot of things are tipping and shaking in this world – such as the war in Ukraine, the climate crisis and existential hardships. “It’s important to show how everything is connected to everything else. From different perspectives.” The “good moments for good solutions” were also part of it. “That’s why programs like this are needed,” emphasized Miosga and asked that the “Tagesthemen” remain faithful even after it has moved on. She also campaigned for her successor: “Be nice to Jessy Wellmer, she is too.”

The colleagues say goodbye with fireworks

But these farewell words alone weren’t enough. Suddenly, “Tagesthemen” colleague Ingo Zamperoni (49) stood in the studio and said: “You don’t believe that we’ll just let you ride out of the yard like that.” He thanked them on behalf of the entire team and the audience for many “Carenesque moments”, which was followed by a short compilation from their “Tagesthemen” time. Then fireworks appeared on the large screen that normally illustrates the news. And numerous colleagues ran into the studio, applauded and presented the visibly touched presenter with a large bouquet of flowers. Miosga, who wore a striking pink suit on her farewell evening, couldn’t believe it: “Oh how sweet. Everyone is here. Thank you.”

“Bye, Caren Miosga”

Also on Instagram NDR Hamburg said goodbye to Caren Miosga with a contribution. A compilation with her best and funniest scenes said: “Bye, Caren Miosga. She moderated the Tagesthemen for 16 years: Today Caren Miosga is presenting her last show.”

The NDR also pointed out once again that there would soon be a reunion with the 54-year-old: “Caren Miosga is now taking over the slot for Anne Will’s political talk on Sunday evening on Erste.” It has been clear since June that Caren Miosga will take over the 57-year-old’s political talk. What she’s most looking forward to is sitting in front of real people, says Miosga: “Looking into the other person’s eyes and not through this connection from the studio to the camera. I hope that real conversations will then be possible.”

With NDR since 1999

Miosga has been working at NDR since 1999, where he presented the media magazine “Zapp” and the program “Title Thesen Temperamente” on Erste. Since 2007 – she was Anne Will’s successor here too – she has moderated the “Tagesthemen”. Among other things, she received the Golden Camera in 2017 and the Grimme Prize in 2021 “for her distinctive moderation style and her persistence in interviews.”
