The British actress Carey Mulligan (35, "Drive") has landed a big role: She is next to Bradley Cooper (45) in the Netflix biopic about the American composer Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990, "West Side Story") be seen. The US industry portal "Deadline" reports.

The focus of the biographical drama entitled "Maestro" is the unusual relationship between Bernstein and his wife, the Chilean actress Felicia Montealegre (1922-1978). Mulligan will embody this. The shooting of the Netflix film should start in the spring of 2021 according to "Deadline".

The biopic is considered Bradley Cooper's passion project after his directorial debut in "A Star is Born". The actor secured the rights to Bernstein's story two years ago and has been working closely with the composer's children on the implementation since then, as US magazine "Variety" reported in January 2020. As with "A Star Is Born", Cooper will take on both the lead and the direction. He also acts as a producer. He wrote the script with Josh Singer, author of the Oscar-winning drama "Spotlight".
