Carinthian woman (67) dead – After black ice tragedy: “The whole place is in shock”

Consternation and shock prevail in the small town of Freibach in the Carinthian municipality of Gallizien. The fatal accident drama on Thursday, in which an 18-year-old driver drove into a bus stop due to black ice and hit a woman, left its mark.

It’s not just candles that the surviving relatives have placed at the scene of the accident that ensure that that morning will not be forgotten so quickly. On Thursday morning, the icy roads in Carinthia claimed one life. As reported, an 18-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle on a long curve and crashed into a bus stop. That’s exactly where the 67-year-old was waiting for the bus – any help came too late for her. “The whole community is dismayed,” says Mayor Hannes Mak, who has already personally expressed his condolences to the bereaved. Particularly tragic: next week there will be a big birthday in close family circles. “We are all in shock,” said a local resident to “Krone”. Because in the town of around 40 people, the victim was of course known. The driver and the victim knew each other. “We also feel for the young driver. In an accident like that – especially if you get into a skid – you’re just a passenger,” Mak expresses his sympathy to the 18-year-old. She is completely in shock: “After the accident, the driver got out. “She screamed and cried,” an eyewitness reported of the dramatic seconds. Another tragic detail: According to “Krone” information, the victim and the 18-year-old knew each other.
