Carlos seriously ill: the moving testimony of his wife who almost committed the irreparable

He is a singer with remarkable longevity and an impressive number of hits. A singer loved by all and from a very prestigious family. His mother is none other than Françoise Dolto, the famous pediatrician and psychoanalyst, while his father is a pioneer of physiotherapy in France. On the private side, Johnny Hallyday’s great friend found the woman of his life in 1970 when he met Michelle Toussaint, known as “Mimi”.

The two lovebirds got married in 1978 in Deauville, with the famous rocker, his wife at the time Sylvie Vartan and Michel Sardou as wedding witnesses. Together, Carlos and Mimi will live together for almost 40 years, before the famous singer is diagnosed with a serious illness. A liver cancer from whom he died on January 17, 2008, only 3 months after he was diagnosed, at the age of 64, at the Beaujon hospital in Clichy.

Carlos’ wife wanted to commit suicide

An obviously very difficult period for the couple and faced with her husband’s illness, Mimi even thought the worst. One evening, while he was still alive, she “totally cracked”as she told it in an issue of Gala. “Without him knowing why, one gala evening when he was gone, I lost courage, I wanted to kill myself and I threw myself out of the window. He thought I had drunk too much, which has often happened to me…”she confided a few months after her husband’s death.

The illness that affected Carlos inevitably upset the balance of their relationship, but modesty was required between them. “We remained in a sort of lie so as not to make ourselves suffer more. (…) He was experiencing martyrdom but hid it from everyone, except his close friends”, indicates Mimi Dolto, still in the same interview. The singer’s wife, who was hospitalized in 2010, remained by his side until the end. “I screamed while writhing in pain on the carpet.”she concludes when talking about the moment she realized that her husband was gone.
