In order to “pimp up” his car, a 74-year-old decorator from Bern installed three chandeliers in the back seat area. With the lights on, he drove around unmolested – until the police stopped him. The officers caught him twice, both times he was fined, as the “Berner Zeitung” reports.
But the rebellious pensioner did not put up with it and fought back. On Tuesday, the case landed before the Bern regional court.
For the judge, the supposedly harmless case was not that easy after all. Because the defendant told over and over again, as the newspaper continues to write. He described the policeman who had fined him as a “Tubeli from the last century”.
“Send me a payment slip”
In front of the court, the pensioner also made it clear that at an earlier police check he was only asked to install a better privacy screen – and that is what he did. The fact that the police later atoned for him again was what he called “kindergarten trains” in court. The judge agreed with the senior on this point. She therefore canceled the first fine of 250 francs.
The pensioner still has to pay the second fine – he has to pay 150 francs for it. And: As original as the glowing interior of the car is, it distracts other road users too much, said the judge. The man can leave the chandelier in the car, but has to turn it off while driving.
In addition to the fine, the 74-year-old is also charged the procedural costs. The pensioner took the judgment calmly: “Just send me a payment slip,” he said in court. He will pay the bill without hesitation, he will frame the judgment. (bra)
