Case of the Saint-Adrien garden: what becomes of Daniel Malgouyres?

Owner of a domain elected “Favorite Garden of the French” in 2013, Daniel Malgouyres was sentenced in 2021 for having ordered the burglary of his own home and for having killed one of the criminals in 2017.

The case caused a stir. On October 5, 2017, Daniel Malgouyres and his wife Françoise, owners of an estate elected “Favorite Garden of the French” by Stéphane Bern in 2013 were victims of a heist who slipped on their property in Servian (Hérault). One of the two criminals was indeed killed by Daniel Malgouyres with a gunshot after requesting access to a safe.

Very quickly, the investigators found and questioned the second burglar who quickly denounced Richard Lop, a friend of the Malgouyres couple. He was also questioned and said that Daniel Malgouyres himself is at the origin of this burglary. According to information from investigators, Daniel Malgouyres was “eager to recover his wife’s savings in the context of a stormy separation“. Since then, the owner of the “Jardins de Saint-Adrien” was suspected of having engineered his own home-jacking. Charges that the principal concerned has always disputed.

Daniel Malgouyres sentenced to a heavy prison sentence

In December 2021, Daniel Malgouyres was then recognized as the instigator of the fake burglary, guilty of attempted extortion against his wife and the murder of David Viers. He had been sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment. As for Richard Llop, the organizer of the burglary and Richard Bruno, the second burglar, they were respectively sentenced to eight and seven years in prison.

A year after this first conviction, the Assize Court of Aude has reduces the sentence of Daniel Malgouyres to 15 years of criminal imprisonment for the murder of the burglar. On the other hand, he was acquitted for criminal association and for having ordered the burglary of his home to steal his wife.
