“Cash Investigation” on the health system: Elise Lucet regrets Véran’s silence

INTERVIEW

In France, 74% of the population considers that our healthcare system is deteriorating. This is the result of an Ifop poll published Tuesday by the newspaper The Parisian. 51% also state that they had to do without a consultation with a general practitioner because they could not get an appointment. A figure which has doubled since 2007. An observation and a feeling which will probably be reinforced by a new survey of the magazine Cash investigation
broadcast Thursday evening on France 2 and devoted to our health system.

Guests from Media Culture Wednesday, the journalist Elise Lucet, who presents this survey “Freedom, health, inequalities …” and its director Gabriel Garcia, returned to this new issue which deals in particular with medical deserts in France, but also reveals that clinics and hospitals operate cancers without the necessary permissions to do so. A fight that Olivier Véran seized when he was a deputy in 2018, by passing an amendment to sanction these establishments and request the reimbursement of these operations. An amendment which is however still not applied at present.

No follow-up by Olivier Véran

In this issue of Cash Investigation, Elise Lucet therefore went to meet the Minister of Health, during one of her trips to the Restos du Cœur. “I am traveling, I offered to come and answer live,” he says to the journalist, who explains that he has been waiting for an interview with him for six months. After this exchange, Olivier Véran will never follow up. A situation that Elise Lucet regrets. “I find that asking a journalist and a program owner to do live when there is no direct, that it is not playable and that it would entail enormous expenses to do so, is not possible “, she judged.

The journalist explains on Europe 1 having already made requests to all the ministers of all governments, “under Nicolas Sarkozy, under François Hollande and under Emmanuel Macron”, and all of them have always obtained feedback. “None of them complained about the editing of his words. I have memories of an interview recently with Bruno Le Maire and it went very well, he was satisfied. And then we are not there to do ministerial communication. We do journalism and yes the journalist has a right of scrutiny and decision-making on the assembly. It is quite logical “, she continued.

“We want to inform the spectators who are in front of us”, recalled Elise Lucet. “I understand that Olivier Véran is extremely busy at the moment with the Covid, and that for two years. He works like crazy, it shows, he is on the ground all the time and I have no problem there above. But we asked her for 30 minutes of interview, “she finally regretted. “The concern of people on these subjects is extremely strong, because it is sometimes a question of life and death. And it is damaging that the Minister of Health himself does not answer these questions for all families affected by medical deserts and cancer operations. “

The “Freedom, health, inequality” issue of Cash Investigation is broadcast Thursday evening at 9:10 pm on France 2. Extracts are already available on the france.tv site.
