Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone, Joe Pesci, Martin Scorsese: it says it all. The 1995 cult crime film, inspired by the book Casino: love and honor in Las Vegas by Nicholas Pileggi (who notably co-wrote the screenplay with the director), received a warm public and critical reception when it was released on November 22, 1995, quickly becoming a worldwide box office success.
The eighth collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro, Casino also stars Sharon Stone, whose performance was particularly acclaimed here, earning her a Golden Globe for best actress in a dramatic film as well as an Oscar nomination for the best actress.
But the film would be nothing without the legendary Joe Pesci, who is collaborating here for the third time with Scorsese, after Raging Bull and Goodfellas. He plays Nicky Santoro, a character inspired by Tony Spilotro, nicknamed “The Ant”, a real psychopathic killer who raged in Las Vegas in the 70s.
