Catenary defective – storm damage: fire brigade freed train passengers

A regional express suddenly came to a standstill on Friday evening on the Pyhrnbahn near St. Pankraz in Upper Austria due to an overhead line fault on the open route. The train had to be evacuated. 35 passengers were taken to the nearest train station in minibuses.

The fire brigade was called to St. Pankraz in the evening to evacuate a Cityshuttle push-pull train. A regional express (REX) had come to a standstill on the Pyhrnbahn on the open route due to an overhead line fault and was unable to continue the journey. The St. Pankraz fire brigade then set up lighting and cut some bushes free to give the travelers a safe route to the street. Rail replacement service set up From there, the 35 passengers were taken to Hinterstoder station in small taxi buses, from where the rail replacement service started. After about an hour, all passengers from the train had been brought to safety. Storm damage probably reason. The cause of the overhead line fault had not yet been fully clarified, but it was probably storm damage. The ÖBB have set up a rail replacement service for all subsequent trains between Klaus an der Pyhrnbahn and Windischgarsten station.
