William and Kate surprise with podcast appearance

Zara Tindall once made Prince William cry

Zara Tindall’s husband, 42, and his co-hosts James Haskell and Alex Payne want to know from Prince William whether he has ever become emotional about a sporting competition. “The only time I cried about sports was when Zara won. I think it was at the European Championships,” he says of his cousin, who is an Olympic equestrian, adding: “I was at the time camping in Exmoor.”

“Yes, I remember it because you came back and said, ‘I’ve never been so proud of anyone,'” Catherine insists in the podcast, which was recorded in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle. It was an extremely moving moment for William. The father of three smiles as he remembers watching his cousin triumph. “We were all sitting around a phone watching. She stood there crying, the flag went up, and I was over the moon. I was so proud. That’s what sports can do,” he says.

William and Catherine talk about their rivalry

In terms of sporting activities, the friendly rivalry between the Waleses, who are known for competing with each other, also came up. After all, they have already competed against each other several times in sailing alone. “I don’t know where that comes from,” Kate joked, adding: “I don’t think we’ve ever been able to finish a tennis match. It becomes a mental challenge between the two of us.” William confirms this and explains that the two will try to “mentally outdo” each other to achieve victory. When asked whether Prince George10, Princess Charlotte8, and Prince Louis, 5, inherited this from her parents, Princess Anne shares her thoughts: “Just a little bit, I think.” Kate then revealed: “They all have different temperaments and as they grow and try different sports it will be interesting to see how that develops.”

Catherine reveals surprising detail about her daughter Charlotte

Young Charlotte’s preferences in particular may surprise some royal fans. Because as Catherine also revealed, her daughter plays two pretty tough sports at school. A privilege that was denied to her even at a young age. “It’s really great to see some of the girls playing these team sports now,” she said, revealing: “When I was growing up, rugby and soccer weren’t school sports, so it’s really great. Charlotte plays both sports now.”

It’s nice to see that “young people, especially girls, are playing these sports now,” she added, already seeming to see a sporting future for her daughter. “And hopefully these are the team sports you can play after school.”

Prince William did not vote for Mike Tindall in the jungle camp

During a discussion about inspiring women in sport, Mike’s I’m a Celebrity co-star Jill Scott, 36, the British footballer, who William is known to be a fan of, is mentioned. The question of whether the Prince of Wales voted for her in the British counterpart of the jungle camp is therefore not long in coming. William reveals that he didn’t vote for anyone, including Mike. “I stayed neutral,” he says.

Princess Anne shares cute memory

Last but not least, Princess Anne shares a cute anecdote and reveals that she used to race young Prince William at Balmoral. The now 73-year-old jokes that that was the only athletics discipline she was good at. William then adds: “You were pretty quick. The look you had on your face was pretty frightening.”
