In parallel with the announcement of new processors and graphics cards, AMD is increasing the features and optimizations allowed by the joint use of its processors and graphics cards.

AMD’s Adrenalin pilots get new features. Aware of the slow deployment of its FidelityFX Super Resolution upcaling technology, AMD will offer RSR (Radeon Super Resolution), a new upscaling system. This is the same technology as FSR, but built right into pilots rather than games.

RSR is therefore potentially compatible with thousands of games. To activate it, all you need is an AMD card equipped with the RDNA architecture. The RSR option is activated directly in the pilots. It is up to the user to lower the definition once in his game so that the pilots take over and perform the upscaling.

The AMD Link functionality is for its part in version 5.0. Among other things, it allows games to be streamed on mobile devices via the network. It will now be possible to connect up to 4 peripherals.

Also new, with the Privacy View option, pilots will be able to make parts of the screen that you are not looking at unreadable. This option uses an eye tracking system via the webcam to determine which part of the screen to blur.

AMD Advantage improves and expands

The AMD Advantage program, which aims to offer laptops that meet specific specifications, is modernized with the release of Ryzen 6000 processors. From now on, to qualify for the Advantage program, a laptop PC must be equipped with a Ryzen 6000, a minimum of 16 GB of DDR5 and of course new GPUs. The presence of a quality and responsive screen remains mandatory.

New technologies are boosting the performance of AMD Advantage laptops. We previously had SmartShift and Smart Access Memory; SmartShift becomes SmartShift Max with the arrival of the Ryzen 6000. The option allows better management of the thermal envelope allocated to the processor and the graphics card in order to deliver better performance in the game. More games are now supported and AMD announces doubled performance using a Ryzen 9 6900H and a Radeon RX 6850 XT compared to the previous version.

In addition to SmartAccess Memory, AMD adds the SmartAccess Graphics option. It is simply the addition of a component on the motherboard: a MUX switch. Thanks to this chip, the image calculated by the graphics card no longer passes through the iGPU of the processor to be displayed on the screen. Depending on the game, this option allows you to achieve winnings of around 15%.

Finally, AMD takes the opportunity to add SmartShift Eco: once on battery, the laptop automatically deactivates the dedicated graphics card and only uses the iGPU of the processor. This allows big gains in autonomy, but the performance in the game is obviously greatly reduced.

Available in the second quarter of 2022, the Alienware m17 R5 equipped with the Ryzen 9 6980HX and a Radeon RX 6850M XT will benefit from all of these technologies. Asus will offer for its part during the first quarter a ROG Zephyrus G14 equipped with a Ryzen 9 6900HS and a Radeon RX 6800S.
