CES 2022: AMD unveils its Ryzen 6000 mobiles, more efficient than ever in game

On the occasion of a conference decidedly very focused on Laptops
, AMD unveiled its new processors
low power Ryzen 6000 “Rembrandt”. Fleas steeped in good intentions.

AMD has accustomed us to renewing its range of mobile processors every year. During its conference at CES 2022, the firm did not fail to present its new Ryzen 6000, based on new Zen3 + cores, on 6 nm engraving fineness (TSMC) … and having for the first time iGPU RDNA 2 for graphics performance that leaps to new heights.

AMD goes one step further with its mobile APUs

But let’s start with the CPU performance of AMD’s new Zen3 + cores. The firm announces in particular that its Ryzen 7 6800U (new top of the range in the notebook segment) will be able to develop up to 28% more multi-core performance than its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 5800U under CineBench R23. In single-core on the same benchmark, it would be necessary this time to count on 11% more power.

AMD also promises significantly improved performance for its new video editing and 3D rendering chips thanks to a maximum of 8 cores and frequencies designed to be maintained at 5 GHz on the fastest references. This is a good thing to keep the dragee high at Intel, which has yet to unveil its new Alder Lake chips for laptops.

These new processors, expected from February on ultraportables and gaming PCs, should also allow better energy efficiency. AMD obviously highlights TSMC’s switch to 6 nm engraving (instead of the 7 nm currently used), but also evokes the contribution of its new power management functionalities to reach up to 24 hours d autonomy on some models.

These Ryzen 6000 “U” and “H” chips also bring with them USB4 support, for transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps. They also support the PCIe Gen4 standard and can use LPDDR5 / DDR5 memory to take advantage of ever faster RAM on a laptop.

IGPUs natively supporting ray tracing

One of the most striking new features, however, remains the move from these processors to iGPUs (integrated graphics parts) based on the RDNA 2 architecture, the same that drives AMD’s dedicated graphics cards and custom Xbox Series X chips. | S and the PlayStation 5. This is a welcome change, since these new iGPUs are among other things capable of natively managing the ray tracing
… This is an argument that AMD has been proud to make on several occasions.

Needless to say, compared to the old Vega iGPUs from the Ryzen 5000, these new RDNA 2 graphics parts allow the Ryzen 6000 to take a big leap forward in terms of graphics performance. Without a dedicated graphics card, the Ryzen 7 6800U is thus able to run competitive titles, and even some AAAs under good conditions at 1080p. The Iris Xe graphics part of the Intel Core i7-1165G7 (Tiger Lake) is easily beaten, as is the dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX450 card.
