Chinese manufacturer TP-Link is switching to 2K with its new surveillance cameras: the Tapo C120, Tapo C220, Tapo C420 and Tapo C720. Various sensors to be installed in the house will also soon complete its catalog.
The connected home is in the spotlight at TP-Link in this CES 2022, with a dominance, however, for home security. Several monitoring solutions were thus unveiled. They will obviously complement the Tapo range and include both cameras and sensors to be associated with one of the brand’s hubs – the Tapo H100 and H200, also new by the way – to create a security system.
2K cameras for indoors and outdoors
On the camera side first of all, no less than four models have been announced. All include a 4 Mpx sensor allowing them to film in 2K and offer intelligent motion detection with the recognition of people, animals and vehicles, even for indoor cameras: the Tapo C120 and C220.
In addition, TP-Link provides audio detection with recognition of baby crying on these models. The Tapo C220 is nevertheless distinguished by its 360 ° vision and audio and light alarms are also mentioned. The Tapo C120 is certainly more basic, but probably more affordable.
Finally, the Tapo C420 and C720 are intended for outdoor use and are both waterproof and IP65 certified. The first has the particularity of operating on battery and uses a proprietary wireless protocol that consumes less energy than wifi, but which requires the use of a gateway to connect it to the Internet.
Two small projectors also offer her the possibility of filming in color, even at night, and motion detection goes through a PIR sensor at home, as on the Tapo C720 for that matter. The latter must, however, be electrically connected. Its particularity lies in the two imposing projectors which surround the camera and must allow it to replace a real exterior lighting system.
Four sensors for a home always under control
Several sensors are therefore also added to these cameras. There are four of them and allow you to be alerted according to various scenarios. First of all there is a movement detector (Tapo T100) and a door and window opening detector (Tapo T110) for intrusions, but also a temperature and humidity sensor (Tapo T315) and a detector leakage valve (Tapo T300) for technical malfunctions.
As stated earlier, these sensors need to be connected to a hub in order to be able to notify the user when they are triggered, but this also allows them to interact with other connected devices from TP-Link, for example the Tapo P110 socket, to create scenarios.
For now, no price or release date has yet been released for these devices, but we’ll obviously be sure to update this article as soon as we have more information.
