CES 2023 – Panasonic Oled MZ2000 TV: new Oled META panel and peak brightness of 2000 cd/m²

Panasonic has just unveiled its Oled MZ2000 TV, successor to the LZ2000. The MZ2000 incorporates LG Display’s new Oled META panel with its filter containing several billion microlenses to optimize the luminous flux and thus increase the brightness. More cautious than LG Display, which announces a peak brightness of 2100 cd/m², Panasonic announces a gain of 150% compared to the LZ2000. We measured 1100 cd/m² on the Panasonic LZ1500 equipped with the same Oled Professional panel as the LZ2000. The peak brightness could therefore reach 1650 cd/m² on this Panasonic MZ2000 in Filmmaker mode and approach 2000 cd/m² in “dynamic” mode.

During its online presentation, Panasonic measured a peak brightness of 1466 cd/m² in Filmmaker mode as well as a brightness of over 1000 cd/m² on a window larger than 10%. The maximum average image brightness is also improved. Remember that increasing the brightness makes it possible to obtain more realistic HDR content by notably improving the specular (light reflections on objects).

For the rest, the characteristics are very close to those of the LZ2000 from 2022. We thus find HDMI 2.1 4K 120 Hz, ALLM, FreeSync compatibility, but Panasonic is adding compatibility with Nvidia’s G-Sync this year. The Japanese manufacturer is also adding a True Game Mode which should retain color fidelity, which was already possible on previous models; since it has always been possible to activate the Game mode on any image mode at Panasonic. The True Game mode simplifies the procedure for the general public.

The Dolby Atmos sound system also seems identical in terms of power. Panasonic simply indicates that it has improved the Bass Booster algorithm in order to obtain slightly deeper low-mids. Engineers have also added new audio modes to direct the sound to a specific point in the room, an entire area or to increase the volume on a specific area – while the rest of the area remains at lower volume.

As every year, image processing has been improved with the integration of 4K Streaming Remaster, which improves the quality of non-Ultra HD streaming content.

The Panasonic MZ2000 television will be available in 55, 65 and 77 inch versions. It will be available in fall 2023. Other models are expected to be announced later in the year. We think in particular of the MZ1500 which is identical, but ignores the Dolby Atmos audio system. This model is particularly interesting for those who use a soundbar or a Home Cinema system.
