Alongside his news graphics cardsNVIDIA took advantage of CES 2024 to highlight certain technologies like ACE. And that promises.

At NVIDIA, there has logically been a lot of talk about the GeForce RTX 40 SUPER series. However, CES was not only an opportunity to talk about hardware, software was also in the spotlight.

In particular, NVIDIA organized an interesting demo around its technology Avatar Cloud Engine better known by the acronym ACE. Something to make video game developers dream… and players.

More lively, more complex NPCs

The first public demo of ACE is not new. In reality, NVIDIA had already presented a version at Computex in Taipei in May 2023. Since then, the technology has obviously progressed.

Enough for NVIDIA to say that the time had come to try to pull the rug out again. Let us first recall the objectives of the Avatar Cloud Engine: it is a “ suite of technologies that help developers bring digital avatars to life with generative AI » and NVIDIA added “ ACE AI models are designed to run in the cloud or locally on the PC “.

In a nutshell, in video games, it’s about helping developers to create non-playable characters that are larger than life. For example, NVIDIA relies on Audio2Face technology so that facial expressions match the audio.

Many studios already on board

At CES, Seth Schneider – senior production manager on ACE – broadcast a video (Kairosabove) during which we can see two characters exchanging in a universe close to the Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt RED.

Audio2Face is associated with Riva Automatic Speech Recognition in order to ” create customizable multilingual speech and translation apps using generative AI “. Of course, like any technology, the important thing is that ACE as a whole is used by professionals in the sector. We will then have the opportunity to see it in action.

Several developers are already cited by NVIDIA: Charisma.ai, Convai, Inworld, miHoYo, NetEase Games, Ourpalm, Tencent, Ubisoft and UneeQ. For now, however, no product or game has been officially announced as supporting ACE. More than ever a case to follow.
