CES 2024: BeamO, the complete and connected health check-up at home

Withings innovates with BeamO, its new connected object resolutely focused on health. An all-in-one device, it aims to replace the thermometer that equips every home and which, to date, is the only object designed to self-assess the state of one’s health. Announced at CES 2024, the BeamO will be usable in complete autonomy as well as in teleconsultation with a doctor, thanks to certain features such as streaming the audio stream of the digital stethoscope.

4-in-1 health assessment in autonomy and teleconsultation

With its connected biomedical device, Withings wishes to expand on two dimensions: the health check-up to be carried out by oneself and the measurement of health markers in real time during a teleconsultation. For this, the BeamO is equipped with several types of sensors:

  • Heart health: Using a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor as well as electrodes positioned on its sides, the object is able to measure heart rate, blood oxygenation rate (SpO2) and trace a Medically certified single-lead electrocardiogram (ECG). Designed to be simple to use, simply picking up the object will trigger all of these measurements to be taken simultaneously and display them on the full-color LED screen.
  • Body temperature: BeamO will use analysis of the temporal artery to take precise readings of body temperature. On this subject, Withings explains that the technology used marks a real advance compared to that of the Withings Thermo, the brand’s connected thermometer. In the case of BeamO, the sensor is designed to narrow the focal area of the infrared beam for non-contact measurements. As a result, the sensitivity of the scan will be increased and will benefit from better resistance to changes in distance from the skin as well as to movements.
  • Auscultation by digital stethoscope: Withings innovates by offering a digital stethoscope to use yourself. Featuring a piezoelectric disk, BeamO captures acoustic sound waves from the chest and back. Guided by intuitive tutorials, the user will obtain precise measurements of the heart and lungs. If it will be possible to connect headphones using a USB-C to 3.5 mm female jack adapter in order to listen to the results, they can be transferred, stored and shared from the application. As part of a teleconsultation, an audio streaming functionality will be available to allow the doctor to hear the device’s measurements and guide their patient in the placement of the stethoscope.

Withings indicates that this new connected object will automatically synchronize via Wi-Fi with the manufacturer’s application. The BeamO will allow all members of the family to create their dematerialized health record and follow the evolution of the parameters measured day after day, keeping a history.

BeamO will be available in June 2024 at a price of 249.95 euros.
