CES 2024 will be held during the second week of January and is preparing, like every year, to unveil the latest high-tech developments including the new LG screens.
Already announced, the six new monitors from LG will only be shown in real use between January 9 and 13 at CES 2024. The most interesting model has a 32-inch OLED screen, equipped with what LG calls the “ Dual-Hz”.
LG’s 32GS95UE screen and its Dual-Hz
If the term “Dual-Hz” doesn’t mean anything to you, that’s completely normal. The principle is not unknown to the world of video games, but LG is introducing its in-house technology for the first time on the PC screen soberly named UltraGear OLED Gaming Monitor 32GS95UE. The principle of Dual-Hz is ultimately rather simple to understand: with a single click, the screen will be able to go from a refresh rate of 480Hz to 240Hz. This is obviously not done without compensation, since the 480Hz mode will be limited to a definition of 1920 x 1080 pixels, where the 240Hz mode will allow you to benefit from 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels).
The inability to enjoy 4K at 480Hz on this screen is explained by the use of a DisplayPort 1.4 port which, unlike version 2.1, cannot offer such an experience. Obviously, we wonder about the absence of said version 2.1, but this must potentially be explained by a higher cost and a desire to avoid offering a resale price that is too expensive.
LG invites players to take advantage of the 4K 240Hz mode for narrative and solitaire games and to reserve the 1080p 480Hz mode for competitive gaming. However, a diagonal of 32 inches in Full HD may put off many people, with pro players generally preferring smaller screens.
An adaptive mode already known from console gaming
On the latest generation consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S | It is therefore only natural that this functionality should arrive in the PC world, allowing you to take advantage of various possibilities without having to review your configuration. Obviously, it remains necessary to have a nice PC to enjoy a game in 1080p at 480z.
Apart from this Dual Hz, LG’s 32GS95UE screen benefits from a diagonal of 32 inches, two HDMI 2.1 ports (also 4K 240Hz compatible, but in standard dynamic range and with a compressed stream), a response time of 0.03 ms and VESA certified support.
LG took the opportunity to talk about its five other screens, devoid of Dual-Hz technology. Four curved ultra-wide screens (all in QHD 2560 x 1440 pixels and 240Hz) of 34, 39 and two 44.5 inches (one with integrated speakers) as well as a more classic 16:9 format QHD 240Hz. More generally, the entire range has a response time of 0.03ms and G-Sync and FreeSync compatibility.
