NVIDIA is obviously present this week in Las Vegas on the occasion of the CES 2024. The manufacturer unveiled its new graphics cards with the RTX Series 40 SUPERbut it also presents a service based on artificial intelligence that will help developers design video games.
Avatar Cloud EngineOr ACEexists in early access for a while now, but the microservices of NVIDIA will be improved with generative AI models in order to create ultra-realistic and credible NPCs. A technology already adopted by major studios like Inworld, miHoYo, NetEase Games, Tencent or Ubisoft. NVIDIA details its ACE :

Top game and interactive avatar developers are pioneering the use of ACE and generative AI technologies to transform interactions between players and non-playable characters (NPCs) in games and apps.

NPCs have always been designed with predetermined responses and facial animations. This limited interactions with players, which tended to be transactional, short-lived, and therefore ignored by the majority of them.
To show how ACE can transform interactions with NPCs, NVIDIA
worked with Convai to expand the NVIDIA Kairos demo, shown at Computex, with a number of new features and the inclusion of ACE microservices.
In the latest version of Kairos, Riva ASR and A2F are widely used for
improve NPC interactivity. Convai’s new framework now allows NPCs to converse with each other and gives them item awareness, allowing them to pick up and deliver items to desired locations. Additionally, NPCs have the ability to guide players to objectives and traverse worlds.
The Audio2Face and Riva Automatic Speech Recognition microservices are available now. Interactive avatar developers can incorporate the models individually into their development processes.
