For CES 2024, Samsung is renewing its range of PC monitors for gamers. Through a press release, the South Korean brand announced new models equipped with QD-Oled panels: a revamped version of the Odyssey Oled G9, still with its huge 49-inch curved screen, and the Odyssey G8 and G6 with flat screens.
What’s new for the Odyssey Oled in 2024?
Let’s start with Samsung’s behemoth: the Odyssey Oled G9 (G95SD). With this new version, we find a 49-inch QD-Oled curved panel in 32:9 format with a definition of 5120 x 1440 pixels and a refresh rate of 240 Hz.
As for the new models, the G8 (G80SD) and G6 (G60SD), we exceptionally move to flat screens, respectively 32 inches 16:9 with a definition of 3840 x 2160 pixels (4K UHD) 240 Hz and 27 inches 16:9 with definition of 2560 x 1440 pixels (QHD) 360 Hz. They should offer better quality/price ratio than the enormous G9.
The three models offer a response time of 0.03 ms and feature Oled Glare-Free technology to limit reflections, allowing “play games with consistent brightness and colors in almost any lighting condition”.
Samsung’s new Odyssey Oleds are also Vesa DisplayHDR True Black 400 certified, for “incredible details and vibrant colors, regardless of the game or content being displayed”. AMD FreeSync Premium Pro will also be there, for a smooth, stutter-free gaming experience.
On the software side, we will find TizenOS from Samsung on certain models. It will thus be possible to take advantage of streaming applications, the Gaming Hub to play cloud gaming or even the SmartThings Hub to control connected objects, including those compatible with the Matter protocol.
Samsung specifies that a new feature called Multi Control is exclusive to the Odyssey Oled G9 and Oled G8. Thanks to the latter, users can transfer images and/or text between these PC screens and their Samsung devices (Galaxy Book computers, Galaxy Tab tablets or Galaxy smartphones), “for a smoother and more efficient workflow using their mouse and keyboard”.
In terms of connectivity, the monitors offer two HDPI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4 and a USB hub.
For the moment, Samsung has not specified a release date or price for its new Odyssey Oled screens.
