CES 2024 – Sony takes on Apple’s Vision Pro with an innovative headset

While the arrival of the Apple Vision Pro is scheduled for February, Sony shared first information about a new mixed reality headset during CES 2024.

Turned towards the “spatial content creation”, this device with a still secret name is aimed directly at 3D creation professionals, allowing them to display virtual objects in the real world and interact with them.

For this, Sony offers a solid technical sheet, and equips its mixed reality headset with the latest Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip from Qualcomm, 4K micro-Oled screens and a total of six cameras and sensors.

Realistic, detailed rendering of 3D object textures and human character facial expressions allows creators to follow the entire process, from modeling to final checks, without ever taking off the headset display.

Where the Japanese firm innovates is in navigation. In fact, wearers have two atypical controllers at their disposal: a pointing controller and a ring controller. This duo allows “precisely point and interact intuitively with 3D objects”, explains Sony.

In terms of design, the helmet has the advantage of being able to be raised on the forehead. Users can thus return to their physical workspace without having to remove it.

Sony is talking about a launch in 2024. Regarding the price, no information has been provided by the company at the moment.
